Assignment 4 - Part 2

Hello class. Let’s continue our unit on baseball.

Over the past few days, you have been asking me how does a baseball player hit a homerun. It may look like magic, but actually there is a lot of science and math involved. You have your chance to explore this today.

Directions:
Click HERE to activate the “Scientific Slugger.” This application will help you to examine how to hit a homerun. Take note of three things:
  • The angle the ball is hit at
  • The speed of your bat swing in miles per hour (MPH)
  • The way the ball is hit
On that site, read the description below the application. Experiment with the different aspects of hitting a ball, and then press the round swing button.

Group 1 – Come up with three different combinations for a homerun, and answer the following questions. What do you think is most important? Do you think it’s hard to hit a homerun?

Group 2 – Come up with three different combinations for a homerun, and answer the following questions. Can you think of anything else that would affect your hitting a homerun? How would your idea affect it? (List 2.)

Please post all your responses by hitting the Comments button below. All of your posts will be protected until after the due date, so don't panic if it doesn't show up right away. Please submit your answers by Monday (August 28, 2008).

PLAY BALL!
